BEIJING (Reuters) - The deadly bird flu virus has dominated headlines around the world, but China's own home-grown outbreaks remain largely taboo in the country's state-controlled media.

While China has been praised for prompt reporting to international agriculture and health organizations, its media has been mostly silent, showing limits to its transparency that could affect efforts to curb the disease.

i was bombed with bird flu news in china, read the headlines of today's chinese media:

sina news : 湖南安徽等地发生禽流感疫情

china daily: Fresh bird flu case in China, India on alert

cctv, stv, otv all reported the bird flu cases in hunan and anhui.

not sure why there are so many BJWs in western media.

everytime a web site is blocked in china, many foreign bloggers/journalists will make a lot of noisy criticisms and chant the praise of "free speech" and "free press". just how important or relevant these blocked web sites are to the life of most chinese people seems not of their interest, some of them even suggested to boycott MNCs like yahoo to satisfy their moral high grounds of "promoting free press". and influenced by their views, some chinese followed their course to condemn the blocking of these web sites.

Rmack Censored

i have one question to ask for them - could you do something more important and constructive?

as we all know, the blocking of these web sites, in its worst situation, influence the life of a few thousands in china, while at the same time, the corrupt journalists/media taking money from firms and various organizations and writing misleading articles to fool the public is a everyday story in china, as i know, the norm of taking money from firms to make favorable media exposures was cultivated by many MNCs in china, which bribe chinese journalists in the name of "media PR" or "marketing PR" activities, and bribe them when they have a "PR crisis". such collusion affects the lives of millions of people and you could do something to change it, especially a lot of them are related with MNCs in china.

couldn't you do something more important but less satisfying for your moral superiority? i just wonder.

via: letters from china - Should Not Appease China: Japan

Japan should establish a more equal relationship with China rather than always trying to appease its giant rival, Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura said Sunday as he defended Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's latest visit to Yasukuni Shrine ......

the bowing guy has a very weird logic, i doubt he himself believes the bullshit he made, like what the japanese PM murmured to himself, "i believe the chinese will understand why i visited the war shrine ..."
