i was in an apparel market in shanghai before the christmas to do some shopping, and there were notice on the wall to ask peddlers not selling fake brands, the strange thing is that all the notice were issued in beautiful english. it must be that the government has already communicated to the peddlers through other channels because you couldn't find any fake brand in the market.
most foreigners in shanghai buy pirated movies, but when they leave china to go back home, they will donate their pirated movie collections to their friends, bring back pirated movies back home might get them into trouble. but it's a different story for the fake luxury goods they buy in china. one i know bought 20 fake rolex watches here as gifts for her families and she succeeded in bring them back home, now 20 members of her family wear fake rolex watches and live happily in the US.
