via: shanghaiist, view the film: here
my first reaction is: are they talking about "china" or "wenzhou" (even though the film has some shots of the bund and Yu garden of shanghai)?
two random thoughts here:
1) china is too large to generalize, but for individuals and foreign media who just start to report china, they have to generalize as a starting point, that's why there are so much misread and mis-interpretations of china
2) like this film domonstrates, the "interest" in china reflects foreigners' concern, anxiety, pride, fear, etc. of their own life and future. this again distorts the image of a "real china" in their eyes.
