while chinese public, generally speaking, are fooled by propaganda when it comes to isssues related with the states, the political elites (not necessarily those officials) are not and there are diverse views that influence the government policy making. from the chinapol case, my impression is that american "elites", like the american public, are equally fooled by "the frame" (a combination or a vicious cycle of media and mentality) when they view china issues.
anyway, Philip's post is a must read for americans, not for the pride of china, but for their own good reasons.chinese have waken up from years of propaganda and xenophobia and benefited a lot form a more realistic understanding of the outside world, hopefully americans will do the same
