Free Windows? Open source code? You can find more here: www.reactos.com. Could developers-enthusiasts create better Windows than Microsoft? I don't doubt, but we shall see.

When will be ReactOS stable and supporting apps like Firefox, OpenOffice, ... I think many people switch to ReactOS (including me).

It will be a long time before that happens (even if it does). This project might die off soon or it might last for a while. I say give it about year and a half maybe 2. Thats if you even remember it then. I would switch if it was usable,

I've used it on the cdrom disk. I like the idea, but unfortunately I don't think there are enough people who really wish to see an opensource version of windows which is a pity. I like windows, and I have used windows since 1995. I have taken a look at linux, and although I can make it work after a fashion, it still does not have the compatibility I need. Reactos does to some degree, but it seems to be more a one man operation. I wish I was a programmer as I would try to help, but I am not, I am just someone who switches their machine on and wants it to work. I am sure in time reactos will do just that, but will it be too late? I hope not.

Look at Linux! It went a long way in 13 years and now is a completely usable system (it is main system on my laptop).
ReactOS is only 6 years old. Give it another 7 and I believe it will get better than Windows '11 (or whatever M$ will decide to name it). I think as kernel will get more stable a lot of open source applications will be ported to ReactOS.

The whole thing that is backing ReactOs is 100 percent compatability with Windows. Right now I can run just about every software installer(most software dosen't install yet). You can install nvidia/ati drivers, I forget which version of driver works. So you shouldn't have to port anything if all goes well. I got Realplayer g2 to work with some tweaking.

I do like the idea of this open source windows. I like windows, I like the idea that we may be able to take it in the direction that users want it to go. I find it absolutely amazing that they have done so much from the ground up, no windows code at all, all created with no input from microsoft. I do hope that microsoft do not try to stop this project though, I do wonder if they would be able to do such a thing?
